My grandparents on both sides had Rhode Island Reds, and can remember the hens having fairly well developed combs and wattles, though less prominent than the roosters of course. Would suspect there are German breeds as well with hens that have well developed combs and wattles...

"Scrapbookers use them, crafters use them....you might want to sort by catergories/holidays ...check online listing. The price you paid was too good to pass up. Maybe the antique dealers you visit would be interested. Even at a low $1 a piece on your resale, you make money!"

Since there are over 70 of them, I'd make a nice whack! That's probably what he'd count on getting for them, but even at $30 I'd double up ... and I just shelled out $1100 for a brake job. All four brakes plus calipers and $60 in sales tax. That's what I spent in the grocery store later... in sales tax. (grrrrrrrrr)

Possible I suppose, but the gender-confused chicken is funnier!

Went in my usual 5 thrifts today, one Ill Will and four even smaller ones. All I found in the Ill Will was a bathroom with a balky toilet. It didn't want to flush but did anyway. Found zilch. The ReStore was putting out odds and ends so I stayed around. Saw some "ooh pretty pretties" but nothing I could use. The senior center...zero. The little food pantry thrift though...bingo. One jigsaw for Mom for a dollar. As I was planning to walk out, in walks this couple with some heavy boxes.

In the boxes were kitchen bowls (useful for somebody), Roseville candlesticks (NFS until researched), a blue Deruta vase (undecorated and left for the next guy) and.... a Pyrex casserole with stand. Gold hearts on the side. $3. It's headed to the antiques guy, and even though it's not a rare pattern I'll at least pay for my gas.

    One like this:

I wish I'd taken a pic of this when I found it on Saturday, was covered in crud, at the bottom of a house clearance box at my local booty

I somehow, despite not collecting any of it, seem to have a not entirely small collection of pencils, mechanical and propelling. So this'll fit right in

The bit on the top is a bit skewhiff and the original rubber has perished but it's in great condition really.
I thought it was a fake originally because it said WATERMENS with an *s*
but it seems it was written that way until the 60s

I think this is a 1941 pencil with gold plated bits.
It even has the original lead

Not worth much in monies but I am so thrilled to have her in my collection! ( that I didn't know I had til I looked)

I think there were two different companies, but this is still old. Possibly even rarer than the expensive one for all I'd know.

I haven't posted any finds here in a while, so, let's go:

I found this San Ildefonso bowl by Donicia Tafoya a week or so ago, in the same mall that I'm a dealer. I know the seller, and she knows what I'm looking for (this!), but she hadn't told me about it. I wondered, but then I saw the price (not much!) and didn't feel so bad. 7.5" across, which is a good size for Pueblo pottery.

And this olla, which I found a year or more ago, but which I don't think I've shared here, is by Frances Torivio, a former matriarch at Acoma. (And if I have shared , sorry!! but it's okay-- it's nice.)

This is THE Watermans, I did some research...they marked pens with the extra *S* until the early '60s. This is a Made in England pencil, from 1941 xx
Haven't had enough coffee yet not sure this is the right page, but it's for sure a real Watermans x
Edit after caffeine infusion...the equivalent pen is in the screen shot, don't think my pencil is here, but the pen has exactly the same styling x
