I know the pic attached is hilariously awful… I’m trying to do everything possible to ID this (what I presume to be) early 20th century American brown transfer ironware. Keep in mind, if my assessment is off completely and this is 100% Jenovian Junk…I’ve only been doing this for a couple of mos. Anyone have ANY clue what co this foil sticker mark is for? I want to ID it and date it, if possible, before selling. Thank you so much for any clues… As an aside, I’ve been elbow deep in every nationality and era of brown transferware and ironstone/granite ware with a shield, known to man… the lettering (though I cant make it out completely is very long and straight through the top, and curved up slightly at the bottom which also contains an “A”. Anyone like puzzles????

Also I’m ok if it’s junk. Don’t mind keeping the set because it’s pretty cute!

Is there anything at all besides the sticker on the underside?

Unfortunately no. I’ve scoured it for any additional tidbit that could help. My hope was in the color…looks a little like non-opalescent lusterware periwinkle? Maybe that timeframe? Lol. I’m grasping at straws.

I’ve been looking online for when the kiln grooves stopped happening but haven’t found anything.

Let's see what you mean by kiln grooves.

Here are pics of a couple of the pieces where you can see them well.

I have never heard the term "kiln grooves" before, and are unsure what you are referring to, or where you got it from.

The only "grooves" I see in the photos of the bottom of the piece, are grooves made during the trimming process when the original pot was made on the potter's wheel. The original apparently was then used as a form for making a mold, so all the subsequent pieces would be identical in size and shape.

So the question as to "when the kiln grooves stopped happening" doesn't make any sense. Maybe you'd better explain what you mean by a kiln groove.

Well thank you Taupou. I appreciate that very thorough and direct response.

Regardless of what the notches are called
Regardless of what the indented marks on these items are called. I’ve never seen them on any modern ceramic products. Any helpful knowledge is appreciated. Thank you.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The sticker on the bottom appears to have some kind of a coat of arms or something... as a guess, probably part of the logo of the manufacturer. The only place I can see any letters on the sticker is below the shield shape. And there, only a few fragments. Hm... the colors do look like they are from the 1950s to early 1970s, to me. All just guesses. I can see why you like the design, though!

Thank you! I know the sticker is really difficult to see.

This is the best I do to enhance the label.

Thank you!! So I think, after looking at it until my eyes go crossed, the top line of text ends in “ware” there is a quartered shield with two left facing animals in the bottom two quarters…the one on the right has wings…i think…. The bottom line of text curves up and has letter A in the beginning and L in the end. This pic might give you better perspective.
