Odd Chinese ? stoneware pot

    Bit of an odd one
    Something I bought on ebay for not very much
    Chinese ? 4 character motif pot
    On stoneware base
    Don't think that old, but haven't seen one like it before
    Might not even be chinese
    Interested to know what it reads out of interest

    Any thoughts appreciated

    I'm not completely convinced ..but it may....say...

    Beans , beans ..good for the heart....
    the more u eat the more u........... ( can't make out that last character .....) :wideyed:

    Roughly translates as 100 year old beans that have been buried for 10 years in a cows stomach

    Then pickled in yaks piss

    I don't think it is so old, probably mid-late 20th century.

    Generally referred to as a Chinese food jar. Pickled ginger and other import foods came in these well into the 20th century. They came with wax sealed throw-away lids of pottery or, sometimes, just paper. The jars were wrapped in wicker or paper and shipped over in large barrels. I think this to be a later example.

    Here is an earlier hard to find intact example.

    天津冬菜 / Tianjin Dong Cai. Tianjin (city name) Winter Vegetables. Pickled salty vegetables made in Tianjin.
