I purchased this Pewter & Lucite brooch at the thrift store a couple of years ago and was never able to figure out the signature on the back of it or find another one like it. Does anyone know who the designer is, the age (I'm thinking mid-century or a little earlier) and where it might have been made or anything else about it? Thanks in advance for any info!

The style reminds me of some of Pierre Bex's work.

    Hi,
Just a wild guess. Looks like a Nina Ricci mark.

Think the house consistently used this logo.

    Is the front surface resin?

I have Nina Ricci jewellery, it uses a stylised NR. See the clasp on this?

I've also seen that brooch mark somewhere. Feh.

The front surface is lucite (top clear surface) on this brooch.

Actually, it's a clear poured resin. I'm familiar with the jewelry style.

Interesting, do you know what kind of resin it is or are there a lot of variations. Also, are some of the other designer brooches mentioned here resin also or are they actually lucite. Just curious.

Ok, I just looked it up, Lucite is a acrylic resin.

Yes and no; this is a poured product and may be enamel instead of plastic. This is one of those cases where I can tell the difference but it's hard to explain long distance. The poured stuff was used a lot in the late 80s and still turns up. Some that were created to be clear turned yellow later on. I'm not sure of the chemical differences. If this were what is termed "lucite" by jewelry people the clear bit would be a separate piece held with rivets, prongs, or some sort of adhesive, most likely. In this case the brooch was used like a mold and the clear plastic poured in.

Pretty much, or the carved lucite pieces they made during and after WWII.

Ok, thanks. I have this other brooch which I'm not sure of but it's carved and made of layered plastic or acrylic of some type. Would this one have been made around mid century and what would you think it's made of?

That looks like layered acrylic, similar to Lea Stein. 1950s ish from the clasp.

Thanks Ownedbybear and everyone else for the information. I've picked up some tips here with it. I guess the signature on the brooch may remain a mystery for a while longer but I'm going to keep looking.
