That brown clay coloured wash, or caly wash, is typical of the type of fakes you see on the general market, casually tying to pass off as antique. All the blue splotches on the ceramic, and the Dragons and flowers broken lines might suggest there is some transfer printing.

All in all I would say the backmark is Apocryphal and likely this is quite modern.

Agree with @Francisco G Kempton the brown artificial discolouration on the base is a giveaway that it's a modern reproduction.

I wouldn't want to piss in an antique.....but it sure looks ready for use..!
So ya...I'd put my ' turtle head '.....in that turtle ...not thinking it was old or authentic .... but sure is pretty !!!

I agree with your appraisal Komokwa, Yvette Monreal is a good example of following your gut instinct.

Looking closely, you can see the mark

The Kangi mark (1662-1722) appears to have been placed/printed over the wash. This is a decorative piece and was not done as fake....Fakers would have done a better job, hand decorated, no wash, the mark would be handwritten and wear on the foot rim. These are just a few things to look for before deciding whether it is decorative, fake or possibly real.

    Hi Dennis

I really can not say 100% , However when a buyer is considering a purchase, such as this, i think there is sufficient doubt to avoid it. It might be genuine but there is is just hope.

I have seen this style on other doubtful pieces, I have a jar with the same style of painting, Jar is modern for sure.

As for this item, it appears modern in many respects and dubious in many other respects. What mark am i to see when i look closely, is there something that was missed.?

My understanding is that you feel this is an authentic decorative item, not neccessarily Kangxi and was not made to fool anyone but someone has taken it and buffed it up and placed a kangxi mark on it.
