Bakelite and what? beads.

i have this necklace, the light brown beads test as bakelite(simichrome test) but im not sure about the darker coloured beads.

they are lightweight and have a rough, woodish feel. I was thinking papier mache, but i couldn’t find any similar on google.

approx 2.5cm bead length, total 72cm

Might be lava.

 

It doesn't look like paper mache to me, but it may be. Are these very very light weight?

Looks molded into a small mold with the bangle pressed in on top, so maybe not a heated method of construction.

 

Those are unusual! Definitely looks like something pressed into a shape. Are they hard or do they look like they would crumble?

 

Heres a few close ups, notice the cracking on some beads. They are hard and tough-no give if i squeeze them between my fingers, but also very lightweight. Much lighter than the bakelite beads they are next to.

 

Could it be some variety of gutta percha...? (Not sure if I spelled that correctly).

 

Do they smell good?

 

Lol, I wasn't trying to remember the infamous Tokyo poo locket, but a thread about pressed perfumed wood tribal beads (Moroccan?) we had some time ago

I’ve just seen this on Facebook and she mentions the smell! Very similar set up.
I’ll keep an eye on the thread to see if anyone comes up with anything helpful.

 

Yes! That's the kind of smelling beads I was thinking about!!!

 

I thought that was a joke post at first, but i just gave mine a good sniff and they smell of incense too!

 

I must be odd but I loathe the smell of incense
