Was happy to get this sterling necklace at a sale recently. Can someone help me with the type of stone?

The chain it was on is pretty substantial. It is marked "RM" in several places but also "Italy" and "925".

They may not have started out together. Is the RM something I should research or are these Italy necklaces often marked like that? Pendant unmarked other than 950.

    Thanks for taking a look.

The 950 might suggest that the pendant was made in Japan (which country often uses the 950 fineness.)

I'm thinking Jasper, but let's wait until @Hollyblue takes a look.

I saw something the other day called Bumblebee Jasper that looked similar but I could be way off.

I think it’s jasper also and that it’s a marriage. Good looking pendant. No clue on origin and it’s not Mexican but Mexico also uses 950.

The stone could be some type of jasper. The pendant is poorly constructed, looks like student made and they needed to attend many more classes.

Sounds like Jasper likely. Thanks, all!

Actually the pendant feels very solid and well made in the hand. Bale nicely done, hinge works smoothly.

Well, let's hope some Ebay buyer likes it. :)

It may feel good, but it should have gone into the recycle bin.Look at the backside and solder joints.

Nah, IMO someone will happily wear it. The stone is interesting, JMO.

Someone would cheerfully wear that. My only problem with something like that is using keywords that attract a buyer...or an eBay search function.

The clasp appears to be broken.

Jewellery buyers won't care about supposed flaws on the back. The front is very handsome.

It looks like a stylised insect, spider maybe?

Looks like it is from the rhyolite / rain forest jasper form of agates.

Interesting. I see more stylized tribal modernist if there is such a thing.
