Featured Antique cedar chest?

Hi All, We bought this chest from a yard sale and are trying to figure out if it may be an antique and how much we could sell it for. The wood is dark not as light as it looks in the pics. We’d appreciate any help!

 

I'm just curious but . . . does the inside of the chest still have a cedar scent (even if it may be a faint scent)?

Just curious but . . . does it show the maker anywhere on the inside?

It may be on a "plaque" of some sort attached on the inside or maker information may be carved somewhere inside the chest.

 

Pics of the interior and perhaps underneath would be good.

No maker anywhere that we can find

 

There is shelf inside that comes right off and slides back and forth. Not sure if it came that way or if someone put it there later on.

 

It came full of tools. Still getting them out. Sorry about that ☺️

 

Looks quite new to me...and the decoration is a middle eastern scene... don't know if it's an actual place or just a fantasy scene. I'm far from an expert so wait for other people to chime in.

I think the design is more pressed than carved,so I think 60s-70s tourist piece is a possibility. Its actually very nice ,I like the tops shape and would love the storage. Whats the measurements? Could be a great coffee table.

 

If you look very carefully at the very last image with the lid up and showing the tools.......the lid along where the new hinge is showing does look like new thick cedar wood, but the VERY EDGE LOOKS LIKE a thin panel is added on the outside of the chest....which would be the case for the whole chest including the Asian scenes...... IMHO, anyway.......similar to what @johnnycb09 was leaning towards!!

Intriguing chest, I like it. I'm with Johnny, the scene looks pressed rather than carved, it looks like those rayon and silk Orientalist shawls, like this one:

I think mid to late 20th century, either from Egypt or the Middle East.
