Still downsizing for the move to VA! This wooden carving was in my parents' house for as long as I can remember. I assume it was a souvenir item Dad brought back from his Naval tour in the South Seas in WWII. I am going to release it but wanted some origin info first if possible. The carving is meh, and I assume it's just tourist grade stuff. Any idea of country of origin, topic, type of wood, etc.? It stands 8.75" H x 5" W. Thank you! mail5.jpg mail4.jpg mail3.jpg mail1.jpg

There may be so many around now because all of the wwII vets are passing away.

She is a Djanger dancer. The Djanger dance is a village dance that became popular in the 1930s.
There have been many around since the 30s, because so many were carved. She is probably the most popular subject for 20th and 21st century Balinese carvers.
Even I have succumbed to 'Djanger pressure', although mine is small, and just the head.

AJ, if it isn't too late I wanted to share this piece with you. Dad brought it back also. Much better quality. I especially like the plinth carving. She's a keeper! Enjoy! dancer3mail.jpg dancer1mail.jpg dancer2mail.jpg
