    Hi,
I picked up a Plate bearing the armorial motto of Henri Christophe, or Henri I. He was the first King of Haiti.
There aren't any known examples of this dish, from my research.
The only one I've seen is made by Spode and doesn't have the same design.
This piece is all hand-painted and very detailed.
Would this have been a tourist piece, or part Henri I's royal service, or something else?
If period, this plate would date to 1820 or so.
    Thanks. henri1.jpg henri2.jpg henri3.jpg henri4.jpg henri5.jpg henri6.jpg henri7.jpg henri8.jpg

If Henri I visited the UK or became newsworthy during his reign manufacturers would sometimes make celebratory or gift ware, in the same way we have royal commemoratives today. It was just as popular in the 19th century as today and makers covered a vast number of news stories, events etc. This is one possibility, the others you mention are also possible, although it probably wouldn't have been made for sale in Haiti as tourist ware.

From the pics it looks right for early 19th century English production.

Thank you Ce BCA. It does seem like the feel of the porcelain and footrim are indicative of English origin. Any ideas based on those things which factory might have produced it?

Given the time period, and the aggravation he was causing the French, it stands to reason that he was receiving support from, and had contact with, England.

There were so many factories producing so many very similar plate bodies it would be almost impossible to tell. The rim pattern is quite distinctive though, and such patterns were often used over and over by the same manufacturer. If you could find a marked plate with the same border pattern there would be a good chance you have found your maker.

I assume jollyrancher was the seller. If so, they would have known who the buyer was however I don't think they've been here recently.

@OA1 maybe this reply could be relevant to your plate:
If you would like to know what Claire Helen has to say, you could start a private conversation with her by clicking on her name, and then on 'start a conversation'. She has only ever posted that one comment, so I don't know if she will reply. Good luck.
