Item ID- Engraved Herrenchiemsee

Hi all,please help. Im trying to ID this item that is interestingly engraved: Schlosshotel Herrenchiemsee (this made for good reading) I note the maker is Hohmann & Katz AG. Is this silverplate and what is it? Also age? Somekind of candlestick perhaps? The dome (has a hole on top) can detach from the base (it’s marked 4 at the lock “mechanism’)Stands 13cm tall and the base is 7,5cm across. Weights about 250grams.Needs a good clean. Thanks for any help or comments and keep well

 

Hotel silverplate, from the engraved name. Railway hotel probably, at the stop for the Palace of the same name.

it's in Prien. there is also an old railroad and station. but not on the island itself.

it's a very nice island where you can take a coach to make a round. wonderful waterfountains in Italian style.

My first thought was to keep a bottle warm or cold but would seem awkward.

 

I wonder if you contacted the hotel if they would have any idea.

What does it look like on the inside?

 

A beverage protector of some kind. Perhaps to put a glass of something under the dome, warm milk, hot chocolate, or some other night cap at the hotel? The protective dome would also guard against other vermin when by the bedside overnight. H-ck, I don't know but can imagine a hot toddy lurking under it when I returned from a chilly walk in the scenic nature around the old resort hotel.. The top cover, lid, could be missing.
