Featured Help with Antique Mirror?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help with this antique mirror. Was wondering if anyone came across one of these and what era it would be from? Is it Victorian? Has a beautiful design on the back. Sit on a wood stand. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

15 1/2 inches tall
8 1/4 inches across
6 3/4 across the base
Mirror itself 9 inches tall 7 inches across
Weight 3 pounds.

 

It looks like it’s had a hard life, but it also looks really interesting. What are the dimensions? Is there anything on the bottom of the stand? Are my eyes deceiving me, or is the glass beveled? I’m also curious about the back. Is it leather, or metal, or? Does it flip all the way over, or just tilt? Finally, is the base entirely wood, or is it weighted with metal? I would think stability would be an issue.

I’m far from an expert, but at least I’ve learned what questions they tend to want answered.

I’m quite sure it’s older than me, but that doesn’t help much. I would guess maybe made for a man; I have a vague recollection of having heard of or seen such things so the mirror is only visible when in use, because some men didn’t want anyone to think they were vain or fussy about their looks.

 

Looks like a late Victorian shaving mirror. Is the back leather or metal?

The back is definitely not metal and my guess was a type of leather. Thank you.

 

Tooled leather. I'd describe it as Art Nouveau. Others may disagree.

I have a tooled or pressed leather comb case with a very similar art nouveau pattern. Maybe a specialty of some company making vanity items in that era.

I have had a number of 3-sisters mirrors like in post #8 and the design has always been pressed cardboard. They date to late 19th, early 20th centuries.

Actually have one quite similar to Marie's as well!!! Forgot all about it 'til the lightning bolt!!! Believe I posted it some time ago too!!
