Can anyone simply tell me what these are? Found in my great grandmother's jewelry box. I have always assumed men's jewelry.

How many do you have of each design?

    Just the two.

Think you are most likely right that they are cufflinks, ones that have been widowed. My only other thought was studs for a high neck collar, but think they would have been quite uncomfortable in that position, although you were supposed to stand very straight & keep your chin up. Welcome, by the way.

Im puzzled by the fact that each piece has a side being the face and the other the back (PAT PEND). It would have a purpose to be shown only one way?

Good point. Woke up & sat down at the computer. Probably should go back to bed. They look to me like you worked them through a buttonhole-type slit then rotate a quarter turn so they would stay in place. We may be back to collar stud, for a detachable collar.
