And when I clicked on the website link of the seller, located in Catania, Italy, I got an error message.

As ever, I reassure myself that no one in the market for a 900 EUR cameo would be uninformed enough to buy this one.

Meanwhile, I'd be lucky to sell a headband girl for 9.99. Makes you wonder, when even Italians don't know real from costume.

 

They know it's glass, although glorifying it as paste, & they make no representation of the metal as gold. Looks to me like there's a crack around the top, which they don't mention. I have to think all those 9s are place holders until they get real numbers in. Lordy, I hope so.

 

Keeps it from selling in the meantime. (LOL)

 

Here is a gentleman cameo that made it into my collection over the last year. Looks military due to the braiding on the shoulders but potentially religious with the cross at the base of the neck. The carving is very crisp. His beard is my favorite part.

 

German/Prussian military. That's an old school iron cross/maltese cross. He's not Von Bismark or either Kaiser WIlhelm. None of them had beards.

 

Maybe Russian? I found this picture of the Russian Imperial army and each man has a cross just below the collar. And the gentleman seated second from the left seems to have a divided beard.

 

Well, @Bronwen, since I see it's no longer available (SOLD), did you get it?????

 

Looks like a signature is on the back of him too!!!!

 

It's in my jewellery box, next to the Hope diamond.

 

You'll have to do your magic & show us. If I squint at it, I maybe see some scratches.

 

Definitely some sort of military reward, not religious. I like his furrowed brow. Can I use him on my cameo gents Pinterest board? My ivory gent is one of my collection favorites. The mustache is semi-detached.

 

Love it! Those old 1890s moustaches were great.

He is dandy. He looks very relaxed.
