Do you happen to know hat is the decoration on gentlemans jacket?
Is it civilian or military?

NICE! I think it's a boutonniere equivalent. NICE pictures. The lady looks like she's wearing full facial makeup.

 

I am 99% sure youa are wrong regarding the decoration. I believe it has been awarded to this gentleman probably for civil services, and it isnt all gold as you thought.

More like 13; I'm betting there's a teenager under there. That was Chinese traditional makeup. The guy doesn't look much older, maybe about 20.

you are really good at guessing age! grandma was 19 and grandpa 22. full facial makeup hardly allows for a smile, so i vote for "bored" or "is it over yet?"

straits chinese or peranakan: it is all about gold or silver. bintang (star) is a common motif for peranakan jewellery. perhaps his father-in-law awarded him for daring to marry into the family??

 

blow it up in size and u shall see its a decoration.

I was thinking more like "can we get this over with so we can go party?" That makeup was great for pantomine/theater but not much good for allowing a woman to express much with her face.

 

This has been in our family since the event, but it is not our family. We know this photo as "The Gilmour Wedding". They were lumber barons. (My grandfather may have been employed by them at the time.)
