A small Vienna style vase, hand painted with a head and shoulders of a young woman, but I'm not quite sure on the script. It appears to be Una (or Und) and Gitound, but I can't find any references. It is most likely German, has anyone come across the name 'Gitound' or is is short for something or am I missing something else!

My reading of the mark suggests "Gitard" rather than Gitound. Not cast in stone of course, but you might want to try it.

    Una gitana=a gypsy.

So it describes the decoration and not the maker.

Many thanks, that will be it, and that is 'a gypsy' which fits perfectly with the image, odd that it is in Spanish though!

It's not a IVP original, it is one of the may similar Vienna style pieces from the period, nicely done though.

Yes, the script marks are usually the subject, but there are exceptions.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see the whole vase. :)

You're welcome. What a splendid vase!

Now who do I have to sleep with to get a "best answer" vote? :wacky: I snipe one from time to time, but my best answer slot on my profile remains blank. :grumpy:

Haha, never even noticed it before, but now you should have one! I'll pass on the sleeping with bit though if you don't mind :wideyed:

Still no dice but thx for the effort and thumbs up for your witty retort.

Ironically, my antiquers profile means more to me presently than the snow continually accumulating outside and the beeping of winter service vehicles about to bury our driveway.

I dunno. Maybe only those with so many points, likes, or messages under their belts can be recipients.

I honestly make an effort to select a best answer in each thread I read. Those who id items or greatly help posters in other ways deserve the kudos.

Just found how to check mine, and it is zero also, but since as I hadn't even noticed this feature before perhaps it gets overlooked a lot. Tbh I often forget to press the like button as well, I'm really not much into social media, still don't even have facebook and the only ones I do have I use for business not personal. Maybe a lot of others are the same and just don't give it any thought.
