I have the same issues with this latest one. Unlikely to be plated - and even if it was, the surface is in poor condition. Value will be low.

It's interesting bc I did a search on ebay, both completed/sold listings and active listings and they ALL advertised as "silver plated".....So a bit confusing!

All I can say is - just because someone says it on eBay does not make it so. Have you found any with "proof" like marking to that effect or indication that the piece has been tested and had that result?

I hear what you're saying....I looked and No markings whatsoever to support silver....

@DivasFinds , the gold one with the flowers probably held bars or french soap, my mom had a black one just like it from the early 60's under her bathroom cabinet, I took the last bar of geranium soap still wrapped and threw the tin out it was so rusted....funny thing, the soap is sitting in my hand soap glass in my bathroom for the last 3 years .....probably as old as I am at 60 and still smells like geraniums...lord knows what they used to preserve it ....I'll wash my hands with it but nothing else some day , just for posterity...lol.....

Awesome (and a little scary that soap held it's scent for 50 yrs....!!)
So are you thinking the ORIGINAL purpose of that tin was a soap tin? Or did you mother just use it as such? Thank you for the info!
