Hello from Taiwan

Dear all,

I'm new to this forum and interested in all kinds of antiques. This website is excellent for interacting with ideas. I look forward to more of your collections.

I am a snuff bottle collector, particularly in the genre of inside painting and enameled glass. I believe most of you are unfamiliar with this form. I will also share more in the future... and want to hear your opinion.

Hi David and WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!! Actually, I believe we DO have a couple of snuff bottle collectors, who will probably show up in time!!! Someone had posted a fascinating link to doing the inside painting!!! Believe it was a while ago, but others know how to resurrect them better than I!!

I am not in touch with her anymore, but as far as I know, she still is.
I see she began to paint full size paintings, with the same attention to detail as her inside paintings.
These are from her website, the first one is called 'Long Live Rembrandt', a take on Rembrandt's portrait of his wife Saskia, and the second is a loving portrait of her mother.

Interesting, I have seen only very few inside painters try to paint this kind of painting. Most of them are specifically painting in Traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy.

Hi David, hope all is well. I purchased this bottle recently without knowing much about it. Thought it’s pretty and being Dragon myself, and price was right, so why not. It was attached to shadow box with glue. Carefully I removed most of it. Do you know anything about this bottle, age, origin…I see all sort of claims online. But wanted to share with the forum and get your opinion. Thanks. Ps. Sorry I did not do my nails

 

Hi Branka, I am not David (obviously) but I also collect snuff bottles.
Your bottle is fairly recent, and made in China. These are mass produced, but they are pretty. Not a collector's item but I like the colour.
It is probably worth more back in the shadow box, as a decorator's item.

David has not been back since August, and there are several snuff bottle collectors on the forum who can help you. You are lucky one of them happened to see your question, because I don't know if David will be back.
