    An attempt at genealogy
Clearly the woman in the framed photo is related to the one sitting, pointing at the photo album.

Another attempt... the girl in the back looking over the woman's shoulder has the same nose, mouth, chin and possibly eyes as the man's portrait hanging above her on the wall.

Gee, the woman in the framed photo not only looks related to the woman sitting, but could be her twin sister!

    Hi,
That picture almost gave me a heart attack. I have the same two cvds on the table, thinking this was a family photo. With more coffee and closer look I realized my are just the same style photos.

Is that some sort of lacy shade over the oil lamp?

The woman staring at the camera isn't the one pointing to the album. That hand belongs to the girl perched on the arm of the chair peering back at her melancholy-faced sister.

Scantic - I think it is likely that they are in mourning. Dour expressions and surrounded by photos - especially the large portrait with drape. I just hope the "dead woman" isn't laid out in another part of the room.

Of course they are twins. Gertrude is the one in the portrait, and Matilda is the one with the album. Matilda's daughter, Hortense, stands behind, and Her daughter, Agatha, is asking if those cute 16-year old twins in the photo were really Gertrude and Matilda. Edwin Pritchard is the portrait on the wall and the progenitor. He was a lawyer in Dearborn, MI.

I just thought they were in mourning due to so many photos, and the sullen lady in the back with the white glove resting on her cheek. A lot going on in this image!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Multiple displays of photos were fairly common -- recently I've looked for photos of interiors that have lots of art and photos displayed. Have seen quite a few. It's possibly mourning, but... remember that several colors photographed dark or differently than you might expect, and these women might not be wearing black. The woman in the back seems to have the darkest colors on.

It's been pointed out that the woman in the framed photo looks very much like the sitting woman holding the album in her lap. Definitely! It could even be the same person, but the one in the picture seems to have a face that is a little more full. Still, if she had lost some weight it could be her.

Here's an example, that I may have posted here before, of a photo with tons of photographs displayed in it. This one is also mounted on a card, but I cropped that off .

Here's another one... this is in a classroom, though, and I think some of the pictures may be literary figures. Again, the card is cropped off.

Holy Photos in a Photo batman! :)

Those are pretty wonderful. I speculate you may be correct on the outfit colors. It just seemed sorta unusual that the photos were so in close perspective. Seems like they really wanted the person viewing the photo to see who was in the other images.

We thought that the lady may have been the subject of that background portrait, but we weren't sure if it was a sister, or mother?

I've started looking for those types of photos from time to time.

Hard to know what the relationship of the women might be. Is there any writing at all on the back of the card? Even erased writing? Sometimes even erasures can be deciphered.

    Hi Fig,
I'll have to send you some photos of my old house. I had all the upper door frames and window frames covered with 5" to 7" frames of old photos. There had to be 75-100 in the living room. The prob lem with my old house was there were only windows and doors. No wall space except the stairwell to the upstairs. So all the big framed photos and portraits were there, ala Downton Abby. Now it's a shame, since all the small frames are packed away. I was thinking of putting up some large blank frames and putting a lot of smaller frames inside of it.
