Featured Need help on a pair of Mikimoto pearl earrings

Hello, I found this pair of Mikimoto pearl earrings from a local auction. I just wonder if they are authentic or fake. Any suggestion?

 

The M in a kettle shown in the last image is the Mikimoto mark - I have 2 necklaces that came with hang tags with the Mikimoto name and that mark. Given where I bought them I have no reason to think they aren't real.

 

Is there anything on the box at all?

 

The mark isn't a kettle,it is an Akoya oyster shell.

 

I handled a few Mikimoto pieces in a recent estate. I learned from my jeweler that those were "entry-level" quality pieces, usually for adolescent girls, that are of lesser value and quality than some of the ladies' items. Not saying that yours are, just passing along some marketing info.

Is there any way the pearls could be replaced or fake?

 

What makes you think they might have been replaced with pearls from another source?

 

I am not familiar with pearls, so I can not tell the quality, or even natural or farmed

 

Mikimoto pearls have been cultured since 1893.

 

I have no reason to believe the pearls aren't original to the earrings.
