Morocco is home to a number of amazing finds related to our oldest humanid relatives. The sites continue to surprise archaeologists, who until a few decades ago assumed humanids weren't capable of creativity or intelligent thought.
Sometimes Homo Sapiens is arrogant rather than sapiens.

 

I wonder how difficult these shells were to collect. Did they wash ashore? Did the people have to dive for them? Wouldn't be surprised if they ate the contents. Escargot.

 

The cave is close to Essaouira, a coastal town. I think shells like these were washed ashore, and it is very likely they ate the contents.

Nice fact, Essaouira has been an important jewellery centre for centuries. Jewellery 150,000 yrs ago - jewellery now.

 

I’m at a loss on a piece that’s pretty old! I was told the language on it is from ge’ez…
I have been trying to find someone who knows.

i am hoping it is from this language as then I can pin point other info on the item!

Ge'ez is not a place, the bracelet is not from there. It is an alphabet used in multiple places, so Wiki tells me. It also shows me that Ge'ez has its own system of numerals, so '1895' would be out of place.

 

I know it’s not a place is an alphabet. I spoke to individuals who told me what the language looks like and who speak a similar language with similar characteristics. The date clearly is from later but also is the other lettering on that portion….

so I am not sure. It’s old… that language is very old… I can wiki too….
I have to realize if I’m not saying things EXACTLY the way I mean - people clearly don’t get it… I’ll try to be more aware next time to avoid the confusion for others

It was discussing old jewelry creations. The language on this piece is extremely old…. So I did not think it would a problem.

 

Sometimes writing does that. Especially expressions. Can never tell when someone is being sarcastic. Things get mixed up and lost in translation. It happens. Not a problem.

when the item is unrelated AND has questions it’s a thread hijack and needs to be reposted on a separate thread.

This thread was discussing jewellery that may be from 150,000 years ago. By that standard, your bracelet is not old at all, even if it is as old as the Ge'ez alphabet, which I doubt very much.

You would get more of our members who know about jewellery if you started over with a separate thread of your own.

As Bronwen indicated, there is a difference between 126 years old (inscription) and 150,000 years old. This thread is about passing on some interesting information, not about identification or verification.
