    Howdy all,

Been missing in action because the big C tried to take me down but alas, I sorta conquered.

Anywho, I was going through my piled up hoard and found this curious ring or whatever it is.

I would think brutalist is the right word. Anyone have a ideas on who, what, when, etc?

I have not tested but it does appear to be silver. It is very heavy and solid.

Thank you all for any help you can provide

Please, stay safe and remember to tell everyone that you love them everyday.

Agree on all points. I'd try a magnet on it first.

passed the magnet and looks like the 18k test as well. What do you think?

304 and 316 stainless steel are not magnetic,316 stainless is resistant to nitric acid.Flip a coin.............

I know it wouldn't be as valuable, but somehow it would seem cooler if it were a filed lug nut. The remnant spiral forms inside the band suggest it's a possibility.

That's a tough nut to crack, gauntlett, but being a nut of sorts myself, I recognize a fellow nut.:D As Ce said, the remaining screw thread is a sign.

Take good care of yourself and take it easy, don't give the .... any chance to make a comeback. Hope your health will be back to its usual level soon.:)

What about the acid test? It looks like silver in person which is why I suspected it so it’s possibly plated?

Test kit acids contain nitric acid at different percentages, stainless 316 is resistant to it.Never had a reason to acid test 316 stainless, but with what appears to be threads on the inside the piece looks like a hex nut.

Ok, I thought the 18k acid just did not remove a stainless steel rub on the stone. I’ve never had it turn the blue-white color like this did. It made me think it was possibly some purity of silver. Ty for helping

I was thinking this could be like an artisan piece like something steampunk in nature

It's impossible to tell from a photo,it's not magnetic and I have never tested stainless with a gold test kit.It could have been a carved hex nut, molded and cast in silver but would need better testing.

I routinely come across stainless mixed in with my silver buys. I can usually tell by site but sometimes will follow up with a scratch test. Stainless usually just sits on the test stone and does not budge with the acid.

This particular piece reacted like silver/sterling does. It is weird for sure
