Hello, I have had this in my possession for many years. I purchased it at an Estate Sale and really loved it, but don't know much about it. I would like to know if anyone can identify the tribe, age what type of wood and what its purpose is? Thank you. CarvedRattle.jpg

How big is it, and what's it made of?

    A scepter?

Please post a view of the side and back, and a close up of the figure. I suspect it may be from the island of Nias, in Indonesia. But more views may allow confirmation.

Looks like a copy of a ceremonial dagger or knife to me.. Makes me think of something like a Phurba..

I agree it looks like an Adu Zatua or ancestor figure, from Nias, Indonesia, with the high crown of the aristocracy. There are regional differences in styles, but I don't know of rattles shaped like an Adu Zatua.
Adu Zatua were traditionally tied to an altar for ancestor worship, but many have been made as souvenirs in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Could we see a side and back view?

Thank you everyone, here is the side angle and bottom half. It does have a piece of wood that does shake up and down inside. Wasn't sure if it was used in ceremonies?

I cannot see the full shape of his crown in your latest photo, but it does not look like it is the traditional shape. I think it is more likely that your object was made for sale, rather than actual use, as it does not conform to many of the traditional forms.
