chair.jpg chair-label.jpg I just inherited this rocking chair that was my great grandfather's. He lived in Lancaster County, PA from the 1890s to 1980s.

The chair has a partial label underneath the seat. It seems like it reads "----sell Bros. &-----" and also seems clear it also says "Philadelphia, PA".

I've tried looking up records of furniture manufacturers in Philly during this era but haven't found anything yet. Any help would be most welcome!

One name it could be is Russell, but I couldn’t find any makers by that name.

Doesn't resonate with any of the names I know. Just knowing that it's from Philadelphia is far more than most people know about their furniture. Nice chair!

Sorry, not a clue on the label and it could be a retailer tag as well which makes an ID tougher.
Agrees with Ghopper, very nice rocker, guesses early 20th C.

Yeah well, these "names" are a little INSANE! It's an alternate reality that I do not deal with usually and a major problem the internet will have to deal with eventually.
Today is NOT that day, however!:singing:

Chair is very early 20th century. Sort of transitional Victorian to Arts and Crafts. Consequently, not a totally successful design IMHO.

I was wondering about that, mission with some A&C panels thrown in? but wasn't sure on the mission part.
Still, for a family piece it looks to be in very good condition and, for a rocker that's a good thing.:)

It's Rossell Bros and Co from Philadelphia, PA. We have two chairs by the same company one of which has the full sticker. Don't seem to have much value.
