Heading home from a garage sale Sunday I saw a sign for another sale so I quickly made a u turn and went to see what they had.
They didn't have much but when I asked her if she had anything old or unusual the lady told me her mother was the secretary for author Daniel B. Shepp and he had given her some autographed manuscripts of his books over the course of her employment. I told her I'd like to see them & while she went to get them I googled Daniel B. Shepp and saw several links to him come up before she returned.
She told me she was going to throw them away & if I wanted them she'd sell them for $40 - $10 each, so I agreed.
Are these worth anything? 3 of the 4 are signed by Shepp.
Do people collect manuscripts - especially if not a well known author?
What do I have & what do I do with them?? (I know it's an addiction - when I see a garage sale sign I go - and usually buy something I don't need!!)
    Thank you for any info/thoughts!

A very, very quick online look has a Daniel B. Shepp as a photographer - not so much for poetry, and a solid generation earlier. Any photos in any of them?

    These look like self-published books.

No photos. They're all on thin thin paper you can almost see through

Some of his books have relatively high prices on abebooks, but they all seem to be the books about New York and/or photography, not fiction. Are the gold embossed titles on the covers the actual names of those book? I didn't even find matches for those.

I think it's a different person from the photographer, but quite possibly a descendant.

I think it could be the same person. He was a publisher/editor/author from the 1880's into the 1900's. He died in 1940, and in his obituary, was survived by two sisters (so apparently no descendants). He was an active investor/businessman involved in railroads, and was also active in politics. One of his political appointments allowed him to be known as Colonel Daniel B. Shepp.

I thought they were books he thought would be published/sold but they never did?
