It’s 37cm long and 20cm wide at the centre. What was it used for? To hang something specific? The little fork part it 2,5 cm wide..It is marked looks like RD? Thanks for any comments and keep well.

The Rd is probably for "registered" as in registered design.

The style is Adams revival which in the UK was circa 1895-1915. Looks like it perhaps held a stick, there were also clothes brush holders in hallways at the time, but this looks awfully elaborate for that.

Much appreciated. Thank you for the interesting information. I have been searching. I was thinking maybe some kind of light thin display weapon. But maybe some kind of walking stick/cane as you say or brush. I will search more using Adams revival as a term.

That would be really cool. I was considering that also. But it would have to be a very lightweight and
thin sword (maybe a display or ceremonial or dress sword?)

Looks like a repurposed door knocker.

What is under the curved area?

So, is it glued to the wood?

    Hm.
There seems to be some wearing in the center of the plate, so it was there to dress up whatever it held and keep it from banging the wall as it was put back in its cradle, so it would have possibly had a handle that stretched from the cradle to the worn area, but not so far as the curved piece.
Idk if that would be the size for something to be comfortably held in a hand or not

But that’s not much of a secure cradle/holder.Also that darkened “worn looking” area seen on the raised centre plate is more dirt than anything else.I would have expected to see more damage or little dents if something was knocked against it..
