    I had high hopes for this one… 1142F47F-87C4-48B5-BAD1-D6EA021197CF.jpeg 4EBC732E-4ECB-4310-B5F7-B95CD096484E.jpeg 6E959E26-50D2-45FE-B964-E7E30F4A1228.jpeg

I still have it hanging on my wall because I thought it was beautiful, has this happened to you?

So what's the story on it? Not by Icart? Recent re-strike? Modern reproduction?

Well I sent pictures to someone who is supposed to be an expert on Icart And he said the stamp and the signature and the numbering were all like bells and whistle’s to make it look real and the signature is a print

I have seen your pic in stores several times. I never pay any attention to Icart because I know the potential for trickery is to high.

Did you look to seen if there is a catalog raisonne, it may also show fakes, forgeries and other things. Also, if there is one, there should be others. Image search would be a good start.

I bought it from a charity thrift and paid almost nothing for it so if it had turned out to be real that would’ve been the shock and the bonus

I hate to admit it but I bought what I thought was a Schimmel carved eagle. It looked genuine. I brought it to an auction house and they told me it was a reproduction. I was very disappointed. I paid a few hundred, so it wasn't too bad. I eventually sold it for more than I paid. I've shied away from spending too much on 'antiques' knowing they are probably fakes.

    About 50 pieces of ‘silver’ ‘925’ and ‘14k’ and ‘750’ ‘gold’ jewellery:facepalm:
    Older and wiser now
Oh and several pieces of ‘Tiffany’. Fortunately all very cheap so a good learning experience.

I bought this print (Qu'en dit L'Abbe) by Delaunay after Lavreince believing it to be 18th C. Maybe it is, but more likely a much later reproduction. It's certainly much smaller than other, reliably dated examples online, and the line quality is very weak, the titles nearly illegible and incomplete. This is probably a photo-etching (heliograph) from an original. It might be 2nd half 19th C but could be even later than that.

Some very easy research would have told me not to buy.

….and we all know you told the buyer it was a reproduction. One that they just couldn’t live without ;)

That is so cool ! Ive been fooled too many times to count, but since Im a skinflint I never spend much on anything. My most recent burn was a set of high end English spreaders I *thought* was sterling, but I didnt have my glasses or a magnifier and ended up paying $50 (wich I never, ever do) and the only silver thing on them was the band connecting the handle and spreader.

Yeah, well you are not alone on that score, it's a major reason why many don't give antique furniture the time o day.
On the flip side is the question of GREED! people who think they can spend $100 and get an object worth thousands don't help the situation.
