Hi, can this piece be identified? Beautiful very heavy 23 lbs brass chinese horse is all I can muster up. No markings. No very fine dedail either so not thinking very old.

The shear weight of this reeks quality to me.

    Thank you

No quality there.... 2 halves brazed together with lack of cleanup on the brazed portion.

Yes, I notice that too. The clean up on the outside in well done. No seam visible any where, not even a hint. And the brass is very thick.

I'm just not seeing quality there - it's large, it's heavy, but it's not brass - you can see the gray metal underneath the brass colored paint/plating. It's nice enough though - and I'd think just a modern decorative piece.

It looks like brass to me, but what material this one is made of doesn’t make much difference in the “value” unless you are going to sell it to a metal recycler. I agree it is a modern decorative item, not appealing to collectors of art. But “it is what it is.” A horse lover would probably like it. But these days I think it’d be hard to get anyone to pay over $50. for the thing.

Thank you, but sometimes an image can be miss leading. I truely am learning everyday about vintage and antiques, something that prior I had nodda knowledge about and barely do now.

I never did properly introduce myself when joining this forum. I am the owner of Best Solution, jewelry and metal polishers www.bestsolution.net since 1986. Metals are something I know a thing or two about. This is brass. I knew it is not old.

Well at a current value of $1.50/lb that will put it at $34.50 so I’m in the black ;). Totally agree on art collectors, but horse figurines and sculptures sell better volume than most. Most horse owners and their children love them. Sold several already for good fares. :)

You're right about pictures sometimes not showing the whole "picture" :) The discoloration you showed in the other pictures does indeed appear greenish - which would indicate a copper based metal. Hope I'm not seeming argumentative here - I'm still not sure what i'm seeing in the original pictures you posted in the silvery/gray areas. I've circled them here:

@aaroncab, Sorry for the delay, spending time with company w/little time to go over your points. Please, I always appreciate everyone in here, your observations are always respected and never taken argumentative. Objects are always going to be subjected to scrutiny via images over the internet as appose to in hand observations. Clarification only comes with questioning.

Ok, so here are close ups of some points you made. I’m thinking, unless when one zooms into a picture, if it is not clear at that point, better images would be needed. One other tidbit, I became in possession of this via an estate from a beach condo, exposed to saltwater ocean breeze.

Looks like most of the spots are from brazing with flux coated brazing wires and never properly cleaned.

So, dunno what to tell u about it, it is an average kinda decorator item, made fairly recently, looks like brass, and is probably worth what u paid for it. I don't know anyone who would consider it a “collector” item, except maybe for someone who collects “everything equine.”

Well that’s pretty good for not knowing what to tell me ;)

I fail to see where I have stated differently other than a reference to it weight which to me exceeds the lighter cheaper ones. I will however disagree with its intrinsic value, but that is just one opinion differently than the other.
    Good day
