Folk art pieces, hello everyone I’m going to post some folk art pieces I have in one post and would just like your opinions on them I thought they were beautifully done but the first one is a life-size chicken made with real feathers loved it The girl at the estate sale place where I got it said that I could have it for $10 if I got it out of the store, freaked out over the real feather thing and then The other three things are self-explanatory two pictures and a serving tray , made with real plans I think it’s a rock cotton batting butterflies and flowers . 22211BC0-4096-4C56-8C66-C349165B3DC0.jpeg 455D934B-4106-434A-A19D-48FB6145DC8F.jpeg DC4B9D0B-6952-49A6-BF7B-1B25A1D6EF52.jpeg 175957B7-9C87-4E4F-A481-EE0280BE2DE0.jpeg Thanks and is there a special place for weird stuff antiques but weird?

The glossy yellowish stuff in the background of the tray is called milkweed and was used often in such pieces. I have a similar tray and mistook the fiber for hair until I stumbled upon seed pods for sale on eBay by accident.

These pieces seem to have been popular during Victorian era through early 1900s (maybe both earlier and later as well). Here is a similar tray (not mine).

I like the unpretentiousness of items like these, and the work and devotion that went into them. I enjoy seeing them for that reason, even though they are not my taste.
(I told myself long ago that I don't have to make sense:wacky:)

When I was young my Grandfather had some real butterflies and pressed flowers framed the same way but no words. I remember admiring them. That would have been in the mid 60's and i am sure they were fairly old then since my grandmother died in the 40's and Granddad would not have acquired them himself.
