Wanted to add that I too see small areas of what appear to be heavy silver plating - mostly on the inside of the ring's shank.

 

Rubbing the clothed ring against a hard surface worked best for mine (not too much pressure)

I think George is right that they are well made costume pieces, which makes me think they have a good bit of age to them, be interested to know how old

Here ya go! Glad your post spurred me to finding/polishing it . Also tried to show the tiny spot of silver (plating?) left inside the band.

I think mine was originally silver plated as well,

Has yours still got some silver on the setting ?, will look even nicer once that polishes out

Luckily I bought it in the end from her for £20 as I thought it was a cool thing

And thought I can always take up begging if all else fails

The turquoise colored stone reminds me of Tiffany turquoise. Same beautiful color.
