I'm trying to identify the age, maker, or possible origin of this hammered bronze (or brass?) pedestal dish. It is very heavy, with a dark patina and tool marks all over it. It measures approximately 10"w X 3.5"h. The underside of the bowl has what appears to be "CC" stamped on it; I suspect this MAY be a maker's mark because there are no other marks like this anywhere on the item. All of the other tool marks are repeated all over the dish, but this one mark stands out. Found in a thrift shop in Napa, CA. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. I've spent quite a while researching it on the web, but found nothing even similar to this dish to compare it to. Even the tiniest hint that would lead me in the right direction of research would be helpful. bronze6.jpg bronze1.jpg bronze3.jpg bronze4.jpg Many thanks.

Very nice, Drea. It looks Arts&Crafts in style, but others will know more about it.

Think probably hammered copper with applied patina. Maybe hobbyist work or from a small shop. Not sure that is really a mark.

Thank you for your reply. I’m positive it is not copper; there are some scratches that go deep enough to expose a more golden colored metal underneath the patina. Still not sure about that “cc” looking mark though.

    Looks more like a "U"

    Or an a?

It does (kind of) look like an “a” or “u”, but when you zoom in you can see that it was the same tool used to make 2 identical c-shaped marks.

I agree, but they could have used one tool to make two marks that together make up one letter. That could be an option.
