Thanks for the answer Christy but "keep sickly lambs under the seat????" Wouldn't they suffocate? and how would that keep them warm?

Speak to the chair in a soft voice for six nights. Return on the seventh night and ask what it was used for. It will not only give you the answer, but you will hear if it speaks with an English accent.:pompous:

I read that the farmer would put his feet on the lamb to keep him warm, in the drawer, however, they would keep bible and wisky to keep them frisky throught the lambing...but who knows maybe i will follow the advice od Any and i could tell more in a week

Lambing chairs were of crude construction and originally used in Yorkshire (my county)
I must say I have never seen one ever.

Sounds real creepy. Even if it has a real proper and polite English accent remember to back away slowly (but keep smiling) and no sudden movements.

I'm with George and Davey. Insert could have been changed long ago (which would account for its age) to make it into a story chair. It certainly would have been a comfort to us old folk don't want to make a trip to the outhouse or try to squat in the middle the night.
