Everything I could contribute has already been said. Wonder if it was ever used by some fine lady to sew a fine seam.

I've no idea to what site you both are referring but did you try the Wayback Machine?

LOVELY sewing set! A fine set such as that is on my bucket list to own but will most certainly be cost-prohibitive for me.

The site was vienslechercher.com, the owner of the site (antiques seller!) took it off.
Can't find access to it on wayback:arghh:

    Thank you.
I have found few of them on this site, please see attached photo, but also I have found more on the website below, it's like looking for the niddle in a haystack.
It looks like the L | B but the diamond shape is pointing up and down, not sideways.
Food for thought.... It seems that we will never know the maker's name.

Thank you all for your opinion, much appreciated.
    Xx

    Yay!:singing:
The Louis Balheux mark is a horizontal mark, the mark at the top of your last post is vertical, but yours is horizontal, right? If so, your kit is certainly by Louis Balheux.

Mine is a vertical line between L and B like this L | B, the fork in the picture has exacly the same picture as in my set.
Please don't tell me is not Louis Balheux

I won't.:) The line may be vertical, the lozenge shape (mark) itself is horizontal, right?

No, the shape of the lozenges is exactly like on the fork in the set picture.
The picture on the website is taken from the bottom and the image of the lozanges may be distorted, I sometimes take pictures like that, and gives a diffrent image. If the picture was taken from the front, it will most likely show as in the fork picture, I think, may be wrong.
But the rest is early the same to the dot.

It's a lovely set, I keep checking back for clear images of the marks, but unless I've missed something, seems that isn't going to happen. If the maker's mark is in a vertical orientation lozenge and is the same mark as the one on the gilt fork, then as AJ suggests, it is clearly not the mark of Louis Balheux.

Is there some reason that clear large images of the marks on your pieces cannot be shown? Personally, cannot tell what the symbol is in the mark you show, and it can sometimes be difficult to discern even with a clear pic, but it might be helpful in determining which of the numerous 'L.B.' makers...

The elements in this XIXth century sewing kit are also stamped with an eagle head.

Edit : I just read again Poisonivy's replies about the eagle head standing for 18k gold, sorry!

Maybe trying to search for "nécessaire à couture ivoire" would give some interesting results.

    Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for your message. Unfortunately I have an old phone, and the zooming does not work as prescribed...my boys keep smashing all my new phones lol :)
But tomorrow will try again, see if I can get any close up for you.
Also, the makers mark I found on the fork set, there was a mentioning in the description of Louis Balheux, and the lozenges shape on that is exactly like mine. They may have gotten it wrong as well...
Please let me know your thoughts.
    Kind regards,
    Simona
