Can anyone tell me the approximate age of this cloisonne jar/container and what the writing on the bottom says? I could only find one cloisonne item online (Etsy) with the same writing/signature on the bottom, but it was a flat lidded box identified as antique Chinese, and didn't include a translation of the signature.

It says 'Ming Dynasty', which is most definitely is not! It is most likely post war 1950's to 1970's. Chinese cloisonne is usually mis-identified on ebay/etsy, you regularly see new items posted as antique on there.

    JMHO.
Indian brass. use a bit of alcohol and see if the color wipes away easily.

It was covered with a layer of brownish grime when I acquired it, so I cleaned it with a variety of substances which brought out the colors, but they may not be as bright as when new.

I should mention there was a handwritten note inside that said it was purchased about 1970 from a lady in Minnesota. I didn't mention that initially because we all know such information isn't always reliable -- and even if purchased in 1970, I thought it could have been much older based on the Etsy listing (but we all know online information isn't always accurate either). So, when Ce BCA said it's most likely 50's-70's, that convinced me it's not antique. If/when I sell it, I'll just call it vintage Chinese cloisonne.
