If the discoloration looks like the pic i don’t see it as an issue. You can call the metal “aged finish”. I love the belt but it’s a derivative piece following Morris and Karan. Trust me on this-forget the name-it has no meaning in fashion and can only hurt the price. Show the stamp IF you’re selling it and just say you can’t read it-you couldn’t.

I am not sure about what I should set the price for so---
I will look up similar belts using the information Debora and Bronwen provided:

I am also going to look up Morris? and (Donna) Karan belts.

 

Robert Lee Morris as Debora said. Forget “with” and drop gold IMO. Your call. Modernist Antiqued Buckle. I like it lots! The 80s are collectible. I still wear a lot of my 80s designer clothes.

 

Reader and Deborah once again--amazed with what you know and grateful for your sharing your wealth of knowledge. I was searching, and my belt is very much like Donna Karan and Robert Lee Morris vintage belts.

On 1stdibs, belts that looked somewhat like mine by high-end designers like Chanel go for very high prices. But because my belt is not by a high-end designer I am thinking the best I can start with is $100.

Again, thank you for all your help. I really learned a lot. And it is somewhat ironic that I finally identify the designer--only to find out best not to mention him

I don’t want to discourage you from doing research and you’re obviously interested in learning about your pieces which is great but as a general rule of thumb if a known label has little internet presence IMO one does better not mentioning it especially when it was distressed enough to not be legible in the first place.I think starting at $100 is fine and if you’re selling on a venue that allows Offers do it. Good Luck with it and keep showing us your finds.

Vintage fashion resale is an odd duck. There are exceptions to everything but the highest prices are usually brought by a combination of the right item AND the right name and of course, condition. Either alone usually fare less well unless it’s a spectacular really unusual piece with great keywords.

Also with respect to all 1st Dibs sellers IMO as a collector those prices are on drugs and sales are usually off offers so take those prices with a big grain of salt regardless of the designer!
