Look at the collars on the groom and best man. Talk about a stiff neck!

These photos are from a local school album (which I did not purchase) seen for sale at a local estate/tag sale. The uniforms and hair are fab! I'm thinking the numbers on the shirts are the girls' expected graduation years...?

1935-ish, Poland. That’s my father, seated on the floor, and his five sisters.

Just a few years later his world will fall apart. His parents were taken away by the Gestapo, his father was executed in prison and his mother sent to the concentration camps. She made it through Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, and Ravensbruuk. My father ended up fighting in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising with his Boy Scout troop and spent the last year of WW2 in a German prisoner of war camp. His father had been a local politician and they were very progressive Polish Catholics, participating in underground activities, and believing in education for all classes and ethnicities of people.

Thankfully, they all made it through the war alive. The youngest is the only one still living of the whole group, and she lives not far from us here in the USA. :) These are actually her photos.

Szare Szeregi, aka Gray Ranks, for anyone interested in WW2 Polish history. :)

Can't tell from your photo, but from your description, as Susan stated, most likely Knights Templar. If the G is present it's most likely the square and compasses are too.
