I got this ID'd over on the 'bay awhile back and put a note in it to research later. My note says "Teardrop by Ripley". Of course, now I can't find this pattern in any of my books for more information. I thought it was Art/Job's Tears but apparently not. The stem has a diamond pattern but it doesn't look like the ART compotes I've seen on line. Also, would like to know what it was used for. It's too large to be a jelly/preserve compote. It measures 5 1/2" high, 6 1/2" across at the top, and the base is 4" in diameter. TIA for any help!

Maybe candy or fruit compote. Nice piece!

Thanks! I was thinking close to that, perhaps fruit compote for small fruits like berries or grapes. Now it would also be great for candy.

think I'd call it an open compote. the pattern is Teardrop Row by Bryce, Higbee c1885. not to be confused with 'Art' by Adams, but this also sometimes goes by the aka of 'Job's Tears'

Thanks, Don! I looked up all the "Teardrop" anythings I could find and this one never came up. Yet, just now when I googled Teardrop Row, several appeared.

Thank you, more ... 99% of my clear glass photos don't turn out well, wish I knew what I did differently on this set.

Agree, nice photos! If you can control any of your camera settings, look for Exposure Compensation and try setting -1/3 or -2/3. Glass is usually bright and needs a bit of negative compensation. Same with shiny items like polished silver.

It's also good if before you hit post, you look at the very top option which says "full size" and it will post all the tiny thumbnails inside your post so we don't have to click on each one separately. Not just easier - it's nice to be able to scroll up and down.

I was actually wondering about that myself, Bev. I usually post that way, but didn't know if people on this board prefer the thumbnails instead of the full size images. I do usually resize them down to 700 pixels max, so they are not too huge.

If there are multiple pics, I like to be able to scroll up and down to compare them. Impossible when they're separated. Besides, they show up BIGGER when they're in the post and some of us have old eyes. :watching:

I really love these simpler patterns.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

If you do post thumbnails, there are two different ways for us viewers to look at them. If you click on the file name they come up individually, as was mentioned. However, if you click on the thumbnail image they come up as a slide show with arrows on the side so a person can go from one to the other.

Just information... I tend to prefer having the full size images inserted into the post.

I have an aging computer and thought that posting thumbnails would help others with gray haired computers. That's one of the reasons I come here to Antiquers and seldom answer questions on the ebay PGP board any longer. Folks there tend to post their photos as huge attachments and I don't have the patience to wait while they load old school. I didn't even know that they would come up as singles by clicking on the file name, I always click on the photo and get the slide show. But if you want embedded photos, I can do that as well. I just thought folks liked the slideshows better . . . Thanks for your help and comments!

Thumbnails don't bother me at all, what with my gray haired computer.

Makes sense to me. And my computer is getting grayer by the day!

This site, though, doesn't allow posts of extremely huge photos. Or that is what I recall from last time I forgot to resize a photo before posting.
