    Hi!

I have over TWO HUNDRED Persian (and other) antiques in my possession so you're going to see me around here a lot. Here's one of them! Any info would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated. If there are any experts who'd like to looks at all the antiques privately, let me know as well.

    Thank you!

Thank you, yes, from examining the item those appear to be the only marks. I will have another look as soon as I'm by the item though! I believe the 84 is the silver rating, but I'm unfamiliar with the second mark.

The lens on my camera is not really meant for close ups, hence the blur. Sorry about that.

I will have to look later, in the midst of something. It would be good if you could get a better photo of your marks. :)

If you center the focus of the camera on the square mark, we should get a better look at what's there. We already know that the other is the 84 number so it doesn't need to be included.

I suspect that this may actually be from the Persian region, prior to the use of the Arabic character numerals that equate to 84 that are used in the 20th C by Iran. The 84 = .875 silver. Unfortunately I have very little information to go on.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

That mark kind of looks like the left facing profile of a Priest holding something in the air........to ME!!!!:rolleyes:

Welcome to the forum, Ben. Gorgeous rose water ewer, and definitely Persian/Iranian.
As Bakers said, 84 is one of the Iranian (Persian) marks. It stands for .840 silver. Most Iranian silver is .840 or .900.
The other mark is a maker's mark. I don't know the exact age of your ewer, but it is pre-1967, when a national lion and scimitar mark was introduced.
It is a copy of the Russian 84 zolotnik mark, but in the case of Iran it is .840 in the millessimal system, not zolotnik. Very confusing, because the mark looks so Russian. More info here:

If you scroll down to .840 on this page, you will also find Iran:

could be from the southern part of the old Russian Empire, where the Arab/Muslim tribes still live. best known is Kachastan (Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan).
    84 Zolotnik would be.875 silver.
