I bought these heavy bookends at a thrift shop because the light stoneware or earthenware looked like the same light stoneware that a pair of Fulper bookends I previously owned looked like. Plus they looked very professionally made. Possibly this kind of luminescent paint was used at particular time period? Does the material or workmanship look familiar to you? Any help would be appreciated. There is no marking at all.

    Are they chalkware?

No heavier like stoneware or earthenware. Whatever Fulper is made of same material.

Don't see any bookends like those in my Fulper and Stangl books, they do look like a cement/plaster type of material. Does the underside look the same as the rear?

No they are made of whatever material Fulper is made of. Is Fulper stoneware? Since I had several pieces at one time, I am familiar the the look, weight and color of it.

Yes I did too. Spent hours trolling the web for a matching piece. Thanks.

Fulper is glazed pottery. The backs on their bookends would be glazed like the fronts, not 'raw' like yours.

Not fulper but do see unglazed pottery on the back. They kind of look cold-painted instead of glazed but hard to tell from pics.

Thanks. Learn more each time. How does a cold painted piece look and what difference does cold painted make to a piece of pottery or does it is? Is it just a technique that can be used?

Cold painting is usually just spray paint. It can flake and rub off. Glazed pottery is fired on and more glass-like. Bonded to the pottery but does chip with impact. A third option is that this is bronze or copper clad. This would be an eectromagnetic plating process involving real metal.

Thank you. I used a very strong magnet and no pull at all so I'd say cold painted or maybe painted over. It is such a nice unknown set of bookends. You are renaissance man! You seem to know about lots of kinds of objects. Thank you again.

The edges do look like chipped chalkware. Did you try scraping the backs to see?

I tried. Solid as a rock. Unglazed pottery. Thanks for asking.
