Today I found this creamware (?) jug at a charity shop - can't make out the marks on the base at all, but the brown/cream part has a marbled look to it, the plain parts remind me of Doulton stoneware.
Would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about it.
Sorry the photo of the mark is ot very clear but it's the best I can get.

Very nice. It's agate ware and looks like it's on a buffware or stoneware body, looks early, perhaps 1st or 2nd quarter 19th century. I can't make out the mark though, sorry.

You could try an image search with a different picture. The browns all blend together.

The production of agateware involved "layering up to four different clays colored with metallic oxides".
Alternatively, "Marbled wares are made by using colored slips on the surface of a plain body."
    (Quotes per Doyle's Auction House).
Based on Doyle's description and the few photos provided, I see a marbled piece, not agateware. The marbling effect is on the surface of the piece, not caused by mixing different colored clays prior to forming the piece.
Can you provide a photo of the entire base? And perhaps try another photo of the mark? I find I can get a better "close-up" of marks by backing away from the piece a bit so my camera phone can focus, then cropping the better-focused photo to show the mark.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

And I played with that mark as well....Have NO clue what that first little blob might be, but it looks like the rest starts with...H F L E ...then I'm not sure...others might do better or recognize it....the blue/purple is inverted.

Try doing a rubbing of it, like a brass rubbing.

Thanks Janet - I have to admit I have no idea how to do that - I'll ask my daughter!

Thanks Bluumz - Have to admit that I felt this looked different to the agateware I found. I'll do some more photos when I can and upload.

OMG - thanks to all your help I've found an item with the same semi-circular mark and 4 dots. So happy to find that it's Macintyre - the company Moorcroft used to work for. (Can never remember which W came first!) I've always wanted to own a piece of Florian ware but I'll take this. Probably not worth a lot, has some nibbles on the spout but I had a feeling it was a bit special.

    So--the mark is upside down?

I think so, the one I found was the same was up, and I still couldn't read it but the description said Macintyre. First picture is mine in better light and the right way up - now that I know I can make the letters out.
The second pic is the other item but for some reason the base mark won't load as a full picture so it unreadable. Certainly both the same though.
