We have checked 925-1000 to no avail. The hallmarks seem very squished so difficult to read. Also, not familiar with the layout of the hallmarks. NOT ferromagnetic.

Item measures 6” at top of handle by 5-1/4” diameter (roughly)

any ideas of maker, country, etc? The bottom mark MAY be and animal as I think I see legs…TIA for your knowledge and assistance!

Squished,,perhaps. Or are the pictures just too small? Yours or someone else's pictures?

Even using the zoom option at 200% does not work.

Better, but not great. What kind of camera are you using?

If you download the app Mag Glass (I think it was free) you can magnify in the app and then take a picture in the app. Much better than zooming in!

Picture will show up in your regular iPhone photos. Then just post it as you would any photo.

    Definitely not Mexican.

In order to be "Georgian" it should have British marks from period of George III or George IV" - late 1700s (reign of George III) until the coronation of Victoria in the late 1830s. I do not see a match between any of the official marks of that period and what I can see in your pictures. It would not surprise me for this to turn out to be central European from one of the cities that became part of the unified Germany.

Your images are still too fuzzy for proper identification, try the advice given by Tanya, and would add that resting your phone on something stable might also be helpful. From what I can make out of the marks, and the look of the piece, would suspect early to mid 19th century Swiss by a Bern maker...

    Cheryl,

The lowest/bottom mark seems the most discernable; do you think we are looking at a Lion or a Bear (perhaps a dumb question, but maybe I'm not the only one squinting to solve this one)?

The "bear" is what makes her suspect a Bern Switzerland maker. The Bear is the symbol of the city.

My instinct says bear due to the fact the legs appear fatish.

@MrNate I think you might have it! I think I do see the “R” in the top stamp.

is there a reason that a silversmith would not just place the stamps in a line versus in a diamond shape?

I'm only speaking on observation of other pieces (Cheryl knows way more than me).My assumption is for larger pieces like teapots etc the quad stamping was more aesthetic/prescribed on the bottom, whereas smaller pieces like spoons/utensils there's only so much space so they had no choice but to line up the marks on the back.....?

Placement would be typical for holloware, even a small piece like a salt. Can't say I've seen a Rehfuss 'crowned-R' mark that wasn't flat at the bottom, they did use some other marks, and not saying this isn't theirs (seemed a fairly prolific maker), but I'm having a hard time seeing an 'R' below the crown...

Those old Swiss marks aren't really seen particularly often, and pretty much everything I know about them (which is little), came from years of reading Blakstone's and Joerg's posts - here is a short synopsis from an old thread on the 925-1000 forums:
