Thank you for your welcome, komokwa. I am certainly not here to push buttons, and a little confused about why my response would have done so. One can be all in for fun ( and I am) and still be socially responsible - no? If I'm wrong, I better go tell my two college aged kids I've been advising them all wrong.

If it was a woman selling herself on a $12 auction, it needed to be taken down. And if it was a mean spirited joke on some ex-girlfriend, ditto.

I just went to report it as well. It was not funny, something was really off about it.

I used the term 'pushing buttons' loosely to mean someone who reports ebay listings....that have no bearing whatsoever on their own ebay sales, and in no way affects their own livelihood.

I did not mean to infer that you were pushing anyone's buttons here.

Raising your kids to be socially responsible is a laudable endeavor , but I'd hardly equate it to reporting an eBay listing of little or no value......unless you work for eBay.......then it's your job.

Once a listing is reported , eBay will or won't do anything about it.
Reporting it more than once has no effect on the outcome.

When 'fun' is meanspirited, it's not fun but simply mean. Based on the responses, I wasn't the only one here who thought so. Neither did ebay security.

Here's an example of an auction I found yesterday that was wrong in a myriad of ways, but it managed to be funny:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-LEGO-FR...42691?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item4d2a680823
I did not report itfor these reasons: It had already closed when I saw it, had no potential of harming anyone and the sellers's rude response to questions were not threatening nor directed at an individual.

Reporting an ebay listing like this is a form of social responsiblity, whether you appreciate it or not. The least of it is that ebay set up what they call the ebay community with the intent that we be civilized and one way they ensure this is by asking us to report abuses - that request can be found on every auction page. I'm not a fan of everything ebay, but I'm a big fan of their rules of decorum, which have proven to work very well since ebay started

But I have another reason. Life can turn, not on a dime, but on a molecule. I was once that molecule. 25 years ago, I commented on the blueness of the sky, to a stranger who was walking past my little millinery shop. She stopped, looked at the sky and then at my shop and asked the question she should have been asking someone other than her parents for years. "Can you make a living at this?" I shrugged "well, I do." You would never in a million years have thought this woman was in trouble - I sure didn't. But two years later I ran into her at a wholesale show and learned that I had interrupted her just 5 minutes away from suicide. FIVE minutes, and her demeanor was not what one might identify as 'suicidal'; just terse. I let her grill me about my business, sold her some antique ribbons, and sent her on her merry way. Instead of turning on the gas that day, she went home and researched careers working with ribbons. She became a sales rep for a ribbon company and became a very happy person.

I think of that incident every single day. Every day I am newly humbled by it. I second guess actions I took before that day. I try to live my life so that I never need to second guess my actions since that day. I notice signs I didn't before. I take actions when I see fit and I'm sure not going to apologize for them.

If this auction was written by the woman in the picture, then it was a cry for help. If she was the victim of ebay cyber bullying, than that calls for action too. Human trafficking is no joke, even when it is presented as a joke, and for that alone, it deserves to be shut down. There isn't a great deal a casual observer can do but suggest the auction be shut down, but sometimes, I've learned, that is enough. So I did it.

I'm pretty put off about being asked to defend that action not once, but twice, especially since I was following ebay's protocol, which, as near as I can tell, are not against those of this forum - correct? I also do not appreciate your suggestion that I came here to make trouble or that I don't fit in. If that is the case, I think it should come from a moderator. From your comment to me and to the member who agreed with me, I'd say you're the one looking for trouble. If this is your custom and no one is willing to deal with it, than maybe I don't belong here.

That is all I have to say on the subject, and I'll thank you to drop it and not to look for another to replace it.

What I'd prefer to discuss is what wonderfully intelligent, witty and downright funny I've found most of the members here to be. I've enjoyed trying to identify some objects and sharing what I know about others.

I don't have to look far for ' another' , as you just opened that door.

While I respect your right to post the above , including it's vitriol towards me , I deserve the same right to reply when , where, how , & if I see fit.

Telling me to ' drop it ' , and not allowing me the same rights as you have, well that's just not in your purview, at least not here !

    Snap ! ;)

    Hi,
16 years ago I used ebay to advertise my services as a "butler" part time. I had three legitiment offers. Then ebay shut me down because someone complained that I was "selling myself". What I was selling was myself on week ends when people went away for the visit to the country house. I would maintain their residence, take in the mail, walk the dog buy the food and prepare one meal for the day after they came home. I was NOT jumping into bed.

Interesting. There are 21,478 offers for personal services posted right now.

Ebay has evolved quite a bit. They used to be much more restrictive about what could be mentioned in auctions - like new parents, they began by playing it as safe as possible, and have relaxed over time.

Your auction may not have been reported but blocked by their computerized hot phrase system. They still block the phrase 'like new' - you can't have that in a title. American Girl was one banned phrase (even in the text), because they protected the doll company by that name. You could not, for example, post doll clothes and say they fit American Girl dolls, because it was thought that infringed on the company that produced those dolls. You had to say "for 18" dolls" That was a problem for buyers because each brand has a different body type. You can now start a search and it pops right up before you're finished typing - there are 4715 items at the moment under that search. Same with items for humans. You could not describe how an item fit by brand comparison.

Anyone remember the guy who ran the auction "My whole life for sale"? He really did sell every single thing he owned and then wrote a book about it. And then signed a movie deal.

For Lulu RE: Ebay. There are a multitude of reasons why most of us jumped that ship when this forum presented itself. I, for one, don't need to support their nonsense. Talk about the brain police - if the ubiquitous "Mods" determined a post was in the wrong category, they'd delete it or move it to where they thought it belonged. It got to be incredibly tiresome.

    Hi Bev,
Because at that time it would have been 150 shades of greg. Seriously I was becoming very main stream then. Now two years before.:smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin:

    Hi,
Did you ever do it in a casket? Trying not to move since you were "dead"?

My upstairs neighbor built a casket shaped bookcase, but I don't know if he and his girlfriend used it for other activities!

You all know the difference between "Kinky" & "Perverted" don't you?

Kinky is using a feather - Perverted is when you use the whole chicken.
