1911 Little Willies Book

Little Willie was such a cad
folks who knew him sure got mad
they formed a mob, and cut off his head.
Little Willie lay there dead !

 

Little Willy wrote a story
Tried to make it good and gory
All who read it quite agreed
Didn’t match his slightest deed

 

Little Willie was a punk
Put his sister in the trunk
Ma called out where is Sally
Willie smiled said in the alley

 

Little Willie turned on the bath water
Sis then witnessed Granny's slaughter
He bound his little sister hog and tied
When Dad came home he too had died

 

Getting grimmer. Should that be 'she' in the last line?

I wanted to write a Little Willie that needed 2 quatrains, but got caught up in a story line. It's up to about 10 quatrains so far and probably another 3 or 4 to go. Then there's the editing and re-writes. Can't let it get too long. Rhyming couplets are wearing after a while.

 

On the shores of Gitche Gumee
By the shining Big-Sea-Water
Stood the great chief Little Willie
Looking for some thing to slaughter

 

Gitche Gumee Eh !
...the lake it is said, never gives up the dead...when the skies of November turn gloomy !

Yes that was supposed to be a "she".

I was thinking of haiku....yes it IS getting grimmer by the moment.

Let's try resurrecting this old relic. I said I was working on a longer rhyme, and every time I looked at it, it got longer yet. Eventually I figured if I was putting in this much effort, it had moved beyond Little Willy. To confirm it as entirely my own I settled on the name Freddy Finkel and have finally published it online.

I don't know how to get around that. The site is Commaful.com. Maybe you can just go to the site and look up the title? It's in the poetry section, so maybe you could go to that. This is my first (and likely my last) time using the site, so I don't know the ins and outs.

 

A is for Amy who fell down the stairs.
B is for Basil assaulted by bears

I is for Ida who drowned in a lake…
I used to have a bit of an Edward Gorey collection. I think that aside from the Tinies, my favorites are the Wuggly Ump, and a limerick-
A young lady upon her divan
Was attacked by a virile young man
She said “such excess of passion is quite out of fashion”
And fractured his wrist with her fan.
