I appreciate your thoughts, but there is no center piece at all in the agate shade. There is a large hole, and a rim of the agates in a pattern connected together by what looks to me like the lead of stained glass lamps. It is not like the new lamps that I have seen, which have a metal ring at the bottom, rather the stones create an uneven edge. Sorry I didn't take a before picture. I'll show it to you when I get it back. In order to attach the agate shade to the center piece they are going to create a sandwich of center pieces, one on top and one underneath to hold it is place.

A further note; Shades are often a big part of a lamps value, but even unsigned bases with orig. sockets are desirable since for decades when folks rewired a lamp, they also put on new sockets, tossing out repairable original ones. I recently paid $350. for a fully working 4 Hubbell socket cluster unsigned Arts & Crafts lamp base. With new sockets the value might have been $75. At least you have one orig. on your lamp. Pre 1915 chain pull Hubbell is king with lamp collectors. 29543285_810930869093523_2745943303259441217_n.jpg

That is pretty astonishing. I think you have made my mind up for me. This needs to go to a collector who might appreciate it, rather than me, who was just buying a base. Is there a web site where collectors like you hang out? I don't generally sell stuff unless it is very nice and needs to find a good home, so I don't have an ebay account. I think I would like to offer it to someone who would like it.

Your home might be a good home for it as well if you like it - nice old lamps sure do make a room . . . much nicer then new ones
