My philosophy but, unfortunately, not my X's philosophy.
Whenever X and I had a heated disagreement, I was generally able to let go of the anger within a day. X, on the other hand, could/would hold on to anger and resentment for years. Oddly, my ability to "move on" actually angered him, too. He could never just "agree to disagree" about something.
But there were other significant and hurtful reasons for my decision to split up.
Re: talking/complaining to the kids: The best I could do pre/post-D was (and still is) what my mother taught me: "If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all." X, on the other hand, talked me down to the kids all the time... both pre-D and post-D.

Yes, the heat would dry it out further. Dryness is part of what led to the cracks. It would not harm the piece to give it a good long soak in plain water to hydrate it a little. You may find the appearance of the cracks lessens.

I’m so sorry. I hope for some healing for you. I can imagine the pain…

 

I guess my perspective comes from that of the child(ren). That’s what I experienced all through growing up. My first instinct was not to put them through the same. Also, my Wasband felt the same. I must say though, we married very young and we grew into different people. It was a long process and after 16 years, we just knew we couldn’t give each other what we needed… being in love just… faded. But, we still had love for one another, and there was never any incident where we did something to deliberately hurt the other. SO, the divorce was amicable, with no lawyers or trying to take more than what was due. Maybe my situation is unusual…
