Please Help -Tribal African Art Statues

They are not African tribal statues, nor any other kind of tribal statues, tourist or otherwise.
They are someone's twisted idea of what tribal people or statues should look like.

I can't stand ebay sellers who outright lie.

 

I reported this listing. EBay probably won’t do anything but I had rather flag it than knowingly let the lot be sold as is.

 

I am selling these at a very low price because I am moving and cannot take them with me.

I can't imagine what they thing a HIGH price would be !!!

Good on you. Overhere she could face legal action for misrepresentation, especially since there is clear evidence that she knows what they really are (this thread).

 

gosh, I'm sorry everyone - I really am - I feel just awful - I have a bunch of tourist items that someone purchased in Africa- I will go to Ebay now and re-write the descriptions - as mentioned, I am moving - would like to see all my tourist-type masks, statues, rainmakers, spears got a a ton more - if anybody wants them, that is great - I have a full 30 day return policy for any reason - also, if nobody buys them, I will have to throw away - here in Florida they have a great curb pick-up system along with trash and recycling - I am so very sorry - I honestly went here to see if anyone could identify - as noted, they are not old. As far as selling them - if I change everything to "decorative" would that be okay?

I'm honestly at my wits end - feel like I'm being thought of as a fraud??? Honestly, I am not trying to fraud anyone - I purchased a 'lot' of this stuff - fully paid for it - now I need to get rid of it. Please let me know where I am 'off', I seriously do appreciate all the great advice and knowledge from you all.

 

P.S. If people do travel and buy items such as this - there surely must be a market for them - someone paid a fortune to have these shipped to the US. They are just souvenirs or decorative items. Made for people to bring home and display. Also, even if they are worthless - someone put alot of time and effort in these. I'm gonna drop the price by a ton and change the description. If someone wants them, great, if not, that's fine too - I'm cool either way. Should they really be 'flagged'? yikes!

 

I just updated my Ebay listing - I'm sorry if it seemed at all deceitful, anyone can buy, ask questions, request more photos, come see them, return them if they are not satisfied. Do you flag everything on Ebay that may be purchased from a gift or souvenir shop? I thought someone may want these, they were purchased and shipped to the US.....

 

Thanks - please see my other info - tourist items, souvenir items, items purchased and shipped home, etc - some people travel, buy things and bring them home - I know I do, if you think the description should be re-written, let me know - As far as the price/Ebay/etc - for whomever would like them, they are saving a ton!!!!!! Who else can travel to Africa, buy whatever they want and have it shipped home.... These are huge, heavy and solid wood, hand-carved

 

I think it is clear where you are 'off'.
You say you fully paid? Let's face it, you did so for something you knew nothing about. You made a mistake in doing so, OK, that happens. You wouldn't be the first one.
You know what they are, there are no two ways about it. Yet you misrepresent the items, hoping to sell for a ridiculous amount, and after you said to us you would put them on the curb.
Conning other people who know nothing about tribal art is not the solution to your mistake. Sell them for what they are, and start the bidding very low. No games.

Acting all innocent to us doesn't work for me. Neither does your excuse of having paid for them and for those tourist masks you posted before.
I can't be part of any cons, by anyone, so I won't help you anymore.

 

Thanks - I paid for a 'lot' of items, if someone wants to buy them, that's great, if not, I can toss - yeah, I did not know anything about them - it was just a whim, I guess if you think I'm pricing them outrageously, that is your opinion. This is Ebay- rather than toss - is it unfair to resell to someone who may want to buy? These are souvenirs - I'm not trying to misrepresent anything - or con anyone about tribal art - they are what they are - you all helped me understand that - and I seriously appreciate that - you were all honest, helpful and gave me guidance - If I can sell them to re-coup my expenses, I do not think that makes me a bad person? I do not care to get some 'ridiculous' amount - it's not really going to effect me in any meaningful way.

I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone on this site. I often go to garage sales and thrift stores - I love buying stuff - and finding stuff to post/keep/gift. It's just a fun hobby - does anyone else out here do that? I'm retired and love to go searching for fun and unusual items. I never really considered myself a con-artist - but that is what I'm feeling here, sad.

You got great advice here from some really knowledgeable regulars on this forum. So you know it may not even have been made in Africa.

Yes, you added something at the bottom about them not being old. But the rest of the listing implies they are old and should be carefully cared for, etc.

You should have re-rewritten the entire listing when you got new information.

 

Cool, thanks, I'm going to change the title now - also, they really do need to be stored and treated well - unfortunately I did not take very good care of them - they are cracking and deteriorating in areas, with proper care, storage and refinishing - that would be ideal. When I purchased them, I put them in my garage storage room - now that I'm moving, I thought I'd dust them off to sell. I would think some people on this forum buy things on a whim - check them out - if they keep/gift/sell/throw-out - that is really up to them. I honestly do not think everyone on this site tosses things out and they purchased to potentially resell? I'm changing title now and dropping the price-again- If no-one wants them, I'll take a picture of them on my curb and I hope that will be okay.

You do know that Indonesia is not part of Africa, right? And these are therefore not African?

Where something is purchased has nothing to do with where it was made.

These are no longer "from Africa," anyway, since according to your eBay listing, they are now "from Florida." But still made in Indonesia.

 

Indonesia, yes, and I doubt they were bought in Africa. I have a couple of similar decorative pieces, a couple, about 5'4" (The male with a huge phallus, proportional to the sculpture's size, the female with voluminous breasts,) and I agree that the listing on eBay is totally wrong, especially after all the information shared here.
And good luck selling them for $1,500 almost as a "buy now" or more. You might get lucky, but $300-$400 for all three, given size, as a curiosity, and you might have some takers.
