Can anyone help with information on this dining table?

Type of timber, make, age etc.

Also any ideas on what something like this is worth?

Thanks for your help, Shane. Hello, Shane! I think instead of "timber" you mean "wood." Timber usually means unworked wood and is a synonym for "lumber." You might want to revise the titles of your posts accordingly. (I'm only mentioning this to make sure you get the assistance you need.)

Perhaps this is a usage unique to Australia?

Hi Shane and WELCOME! Can you give height and round dimensions, please and thank you!! And @Bakersgma, why the Australia suggestion, or did I miss input in an Introduction???? Not yet knowing the size or location, I'm half-thinking the base "MIGHT" be Oak, but I'm also wondering IF it is, has it been bleached or just natural???? HAS to weigh a ton with that top!!!! NICE table and NICE images, BTW, Shane!!!:happy::happy:

England / UK as well refers to "timber" as wood, Americans on the other hand think of timber as a forest.
Or, as GB Shaw once said
"George Bernard Shaw said: "England and America are two countries separated by a common language"

You can add Canada & Australia to that list!:p

Thank you all for alerting me to the wider usage. Apologies, Shane, for the mis-direction.

Thinking that this is jarra wood ("Australian Mahogany") and a Victorian revival piece from the mid-20th century. Although there is some nice handwork on the pedestal, the drop finial is wrong for the 1870s, after which this piece is modeled. Instead of tapering, it's wide at the ground contact point, as if it were there for stability rather than aesthetics.

Nevertheless, a handsome enough piece, and probably worth several hundred dollars U.S.

Thank you very much for your input. Yes we are pretty fond of it.
You’re quite right, the top alone was an awkward and difficult 2 man lift.
I stopped writing the location as I supposed that it wasn't important where it was as it could've come from anywhere but I’m new, so unsure on what info is useful.

The marble top is 111cm wide
And together they are 75cm high

    Thanks again for your help!

This makes me think of CRISFIELD! The best seafood restaurant in the USA, bar none! I miss it as well as others, it's about the only thing I really miss about DC, THE FOOD!
DC is an international city so has some of the best food going anywhere.
Worth a visit if in the area, a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant opened in 1945 and they get deliveries every day from the Chesapeake Bay.
The star of the show, of course, Chesapeake blue crabs!

Thanks for your knowledgeable answer Ghopper1924! Other guesses on wood have been teak and oak. No 2 people have guessed the same!

LOL, I am not surprised but one thing for certain, it's not oak.
Wood/timber/furniture does not photograph well, I have been fooled more than once on species with photos alone.
