    Hello Everyone,

I have an interesting necklace that I believe is silver and Middle Eastern. Oddly it is a very mid century modern looking. There appears to be an Arabic? hallmark or makers mark of some sort. Any information or advice regarding it would be much appreciated.

    All the best,

    Justin

Not saying it is but reminds me of Jakob Bengel galalith jewellery which was mostly unmarked.

That's what I thought. Part of the mark looks double stamped to me.
It is really nice, and the style is Art Deco rather than mid century.

Jakob Bengel used a lot of chrome, which this could be too. If it is indeed chrome, it would bring us closer to Jakob Bengel or someone in his circle.

Double struck “Ges Gesch“, Gesetzlich Geschutzt.

    Wow, amazing, anund.:jawdrop:
So it could be by someone close to Bengel. Or maybe even Bengel? I don't know if any Bengel pieces were ever stamped Gesetzlich geschützt.

So the Internet says the G in a diamond cartouche is Henkel & Grosse and I see some saying by Jakob Bengel for H&G.

It is not a Henkel & Grossé mark I know, and I can't find it. I only know the 'Grosse' marks.
Of course the official website doesn't show marks.

Jakob Bengel had his own factory, in Idar Oberstein. Presumably all his jewellery was made there.
Part of the Jakob Bengel factory, it is now an industrial monument and museum:

Henkel & Grossé had a factory in Pforzheim. Pforzheim makers were known for quality work, but also for copying/adapting other jewellery styles for a bigger market. So maybe Henkel & Grossé made Bengel-inspired jewellery?
Henkel & Grossé is also an excellent brand btw.

So I went through that insanely impressive collection and while I could not find an exact match, there are so many shared design elements I would be surprised if it wasn't a Jakob Bengel.

I am about to email them now (thanks for the contact info) and will let you know if they get back to me.

Once again, thank you everyone who chimed in here. I was completely stuck with this piece and you all really helped out. Much appreciated.

So I heard back from Jacob Bengel website earlier this week and while they could say it conclusively, they don't believe it is one of his pieces. Have to say that surprised me as it really does look like one of his to me.

I am going to follow the other lead suggested here, that it might be a piece by Henkel & Grossé. If anyone has any other suggestions or advice please let me know.

Thanks again for all the assistance to date.
