request help to identify old heavy vase

    I cannot tell what material or identify the maker of this vase and would like to reach out for assistance? It is 15 inches tall and about 4.5 inches in diameter. It is quite heavy, maybe 6-7 pounds. There is a mark on the bottom which I cannot see very well-the number 33 and some letters appear to be scratched (might start with M). The inside is glazed and the surface of the vase appears mottled (see close up).

    I wonder if it is a piece of "terra cotta" ???

    Wouldn't imagine so if it has English markings.

    Terracotta is a generic term for a pottery type, used validly in English. It simply means a red clay.

    Red clay is terra rossa.

    Yeah, but in pottery terms here, terra cotta gets used for anything reddish!
