Hello all, happy Monday! Picked up these little beauties online. I'd love if you could tell me more about them, are they both coin purses? Both roughly 2.75"L. The black beaded one has 'PAT, MAR 25. 90' which I assume means patented March 25, 1890 (hopefully not 1990!!)? I know that doesn't necessarily mean that it's that old but I would appreciate your thoughts! Any way of telling where they might have come from originally? Thanks as always

They are lovely, Elen. And great photos.
Maybe someone can find where the patent marked one is from. Are you in the US? In that case it is probably the US. And yes, the patent would date from 1890. The design on the lid is very Art Nouveau.

Without any kind of mark, the mesh one could have been made anywhere in Europe or the European influenced world. We have a lot of them here in the Netherlands as well. The ring made it possible to hang it from a chatelaine.

Sweet coin purses. I have a similar round one that belonged to my great grandmother (I’m 63) so it definitely could be from 1890.

Thank you! I am in Canada but they did come from the US. Phew, glad the '90' is an 1890 patent

Here’s my great grandmother’s. Mine is leather but otherwise the construction looks identical. Yours is in much better condition. F65DC6A0-E902-4F95-9BE0-E820995E4316.jpeg C7CD0319-149F-4450-81EB-9DD0BF2E542C.jpeg
